From Last Summer

Spring is in the air! I'm looking forward to getting back hiking in the hills this summer. To that end, I ran into a very well done and interesting photo blog. It's Atom's Picture Blog and if anyone who visit's here likes this blog, I think that you'll very much enjoy Adam's too.

Fast food arches? Perhaps in neolithic times. This is a whalebone arch, taken in Barrow, Tuesday, (4/6/10)looking out on the Chukchi Sea.

Here's a little something from Dillard & Clark, 'Train leaves Here this Morning' and 'In the Plan.'
It's off of a great album they cut back in 1969, 'The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark'. If you don't know who Doug Dillard and Gene Clark were, you should. Anyway if you like bluegrass/country give it a listen. If you don't, give it a listen anyway. These guys were exceptionally good.

One more track by Allison Krause and Robert Plant of 'Through the Morning, Through the Night' which gives the Dillard & Clark standard a run for its money.

2009's Ship of Fools

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S
Again, while I try not to divert to politics on this photo-blog. Sometimes circumstances compel you. Here's hoping that 2010 ends up better than 2009.
Here's a collage of jokers for 2009.
Perhaps I'll do a whole 52 card deck of jokers? That's it! No one card outranking the other! Total gridlock! How does one win? Easy! Bribery, graft & back room deals! Just like the real congress!
Or perhaps an ever expanding poster. The possibilities are endless.
Here's hoping for change.

Top Left to right: Pelosi, Obama, Reid
Middle: Waxman (a.k.a. Batboy), Our new symbol, Geithner holding Bernanke's head, Alaska's junior senator Boy Begich
Bottom: Frank, Biden, Hillary

This link takes you to some stunning photos by George Steinmetz, who took them while up in a motorized para-glider. They are spectacular. If you have a few moments to spare, you won't be disappointed.

Looking East

Here's your "Orwell must be spinning in his grave report"

No media bias though.

Finally, some Talmudic quotes, courtesy Neoneocon's site;

"The truth is a heavy burden; only a few can carry it."

"The world is in the hands of fools." Indeed it is, look no further than Washington.

"Two farmers each claimed to own a certain cow. While one pulled on its head and the other pulled on its tail, the cow was milked by the lawyer."

"The thief who has no opportunity to steal thinks he is an honest man."

"Buttered bread always falls dry side up."

"If someone is coming to kill you, get up early and kill him first."

"Whoever teaches his son teaches not only his son but also his son’s son, and so on to the end of generations."

"A dream which has not been interpreted is like a letter unread."

"To save one man is like saving a world"

In another form:

"Whoever saves a single life it is as though he saved the universe."
